Associate Attorney Kelsey J. Burge
Kelsey joined Weiss-Kunz & Oliver as an associate attorney after spending two years practicing at a boutique law firm that concentrated in catastrophic personal injury. Kelsey recognizes that sometimes going through a divorce can feel like a catastrophic injury to the parties involved. Through this work, Kelsey learned how to listen and understand her clients’ needs; and she learned the importance of ensuring her clients were informed and comfortable in what the next steps would be in their case. Kelsey strives to make sure that her clients are heard and that she zealously advocates for her clients’ interests.
From her personal background as an adoptee, Kelsey knows how emotional the issues involved in family law can be. She understands that any changes in a family dynamic can be confusing, overwhelming, and difficult. Kelsey not only wants to meet her clients’ legal needs but to also assist her clients in getting through some of the most difficult times of their lives.
Kelsey received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bradley University in International Studies. During this time, she cultivated her analytical skills and ability to understand complex problems, while learning about how cultures shape the way each individual views and interacts with the world. This allows Kelsey to work with clients from a variety of backgrounds.
After Bradley University, Kelsey continued her academic career at Northern Illinois University College of Law where she obtained her Juris Doctor degree. While at law school, Kelsey participated in Law Review, Moot Court Society, and Delta Theta Phi. She received many awards, including Law Review Best Cite Check Performance of Volume 39, Law Review Most Valuable Member of Volume 40, 3rd place in the 2019 Lenny B. Mandell Moot Court Competition, and Runner-Up Best Oral Argument in the 2019 Lenny B. Mandell Moot Court Competition. Kelsey’s legal writing skills continue to help her stand out in the legal community as a practicing attorney.
In her free time, Kelsey enjoys baking, listening to live music, and spending time with her rescue chihuahua, Chiquita.
