Senior Associate Andrew B. Ference

In 2018, Andrew Ference was promoted to be a Senior Associate at Weiss-Kunz & Oliver, LLC after winning several challenging cases for his clients and the firm. Practicing exclusively in family law, Andrew primarily handles complex divorce cases, paternity and child support issues, and custody and visitation matters. He has earned an excellent reputation among his colleagues, the courts, and members of the bar for his settlement negotiation and litigation skills. Andrew is passionate about helping his clients through each stage of litigation and settlement.

“I enjoy the challenge and the unique circumstances that each case presents. The fact that my work can help people put their lives back together is extremely rewarding. Although some cases have legal similarities, every single case is factually different. Every person that comes into our office has their own unique situation and I tailor my representation to those individual needs.”

Andrew Ference finds the practice of family law fulfilling. "Part of my job is investigating and problem solving, and I really enjoy that.” He notes that with complex cases, this process is helped through collaboration with his colleagues at Weiss-Kunz & Oliver, LLC.

“The collaborative team approach we use here at the firm makes a big difference in our work product. Each lawyer here has their own legal and life experiences, and collectively we can make the work product much better,” Andrew said.

Before joining Weiss-Kunz & Oliver, LLC, Andrew Ference worked for a boutique family law firm where he gained valuable experience participating in hotly contested custody/visitation trials with various issues including, parental alienation, 604(b) custody examinations, psychological evaluations, supervised parenting time and other complex legal issues.

In law school, Andrew Ference gained significant experience volunteering with the Family Advocacy Clinic while advocating for indigent clients in Champaign County in child abuse and neglect cases. Andrew interviewed and counseled both clients independently and collaboratively with his assigned partner. Andrew appeared on behalf of his clients in court hearings and successfully advocated on behalf of his clients to change the long standing practice of the timing of paternity testing in child abuse and neglect cases in Champaign County.

Andrew also volunteered with St. Jude's Children's Hospital while serving as Co-Chair of his fraternity's philanthropy efforts. Andrew attended conferences and brought select fundraising practices back to Illinois, resulting in an increase in donations to help advance St. Jude's mission to discover cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases.

Prior to attending law school, Andrew worked for a non-profit organization dedicated to helping small farmers and farmers markets throughout Illinois. Andrew assisted with the development and implementation of business plans so that farmers could grow their business throughout Illinois.

When Andrew isn’t in a courtroom, you can find him on the golf course, enjoying a movie, or cooking.
